Emmanuel Pentecostal Church of God In Christ
"The Presence of the Lord is Here"
History
Pastor: Supt. Joseph Johnson                                                                                             Founder: Supt. B. A. Anthony

The Emmanuel Pentecostal COGIC was founded in 1980 under the leadership of the late Superintendent B. A. and Missionary Dollie M. Anthony. It began as a tent ministry on Martin Luther King Drive, where souls were saved and filled with the Holy Ghost.

From there a store front building on the corner of Crockett and Walters St. was purchased and remodeled. Church services were held in that location and the Lord continued to add to the church daily as He saw fit. Tent revivals and prayer meetings were an integral part of the ministry.

As the church continued to grow and prosper; God blessed Supt. and Msny. Anthony and the congregation to purchase in 1986, a building at 2326 Martin Luther King Dr.

In 1990 God led Supt. Anthony to purchase our current edifice at 222 Spriggsdale Avenue. Supt. and Missionary Anthony were dedicated to the work and served Emmanuel faithfully until God called them from labor to reward.

Many of the saints that started with our founder have also gone on to be with the Lord, but they are not forgotten. Elder Gonzales, Mother L. Anderson (church Mother), Deacon J. Anderson, Missionary M. Spencer, Mother Franks, Sister Jefferson, Sister Briggs, Mother Clayton, Brother O. Anthony, Mother Crawford, Mother F. Ables, Deacon Johnson, and Sister M. Hopkins.

On February 8, 2004 Bishop S. E. Iglehart assigned Elder Joseph Johnson the administrative duties for the Emmanuel Pentecostal family. The pastoral mantle was passed on to him on May 30, 2004 and the work began.

As a visionary the Lord revealed to our Pastor that the success of this ministry would be built on prayer and fasting. Daily prayer was implemented along with monthly shut-ins. Once again the church began to grow. We are presently enjoying the benefits and seeing the results of a continued consecrated lifestyle.

In December 2004 the church was paid off and the mortgage burned. It was our leaders desire to beautify the house of the Lord, so a plan was set in motion. Through this plan the sanctuary, fellowship hall (dedicated for: Dollie Mae Anthony), offices, restrooms, women lounge, kitchen, and foyer were all remodeled. A conference room, nursery and two air condition units were added. The parking lot was paved and fenced, and a new sign was erected. Thank God for the Emmanuel family who had a mind to work!

Teaching and training are intricate parts of our Pastors’ vision to help us better serve humanity. Pastor and First Lady Lynette Johnson, has initiated new ministries to enhance our knowledge and understanding. Such as the New Believers, Excellence in Ministry, and Leadership Training Classes. Outreach programs have been established to win lost souls for Christ. Our goal is to impact & encourage the entire community & beyond…one life at a time.
